Position Summary

The Communications Associate will help execute state- and program-level communications to members, online donors, and the public. They will frame messages, develop content, and use marketing tools including print and digital media to reach target audiences.

Reporting to the Communications Director for Audubon’s Florida (AFL) office, the Communications Associate will support overall engagement with conservation efforts across the state.

They will work to implement a wide range of writing-based tactics including social media posts, blog/news updates, email engagement, basic design work, and earned media placements. One morning you could be working on a campaign to protect beach-nesting birds, and that afternoon, writing a brochure for a summer camp program.

You should be a superstar writer, a creative thinker, and a fast actor. You will juggle multiple projects at one time, and regularly interface with key advocacy, science, education, and nature center teams to ensure communications support organizational goals.

Essential Functions

In coordination with the Communications Director, implement communications strategies that will broaden Audubon Florida’s visibility and reach, enhance development goals, and deepen the impact of our work.

· Support the creation of a wide range of communications materials for distribution across various platforms and

diverse audiences to build support for Audubon Florida’s conservation, policy, and programmatic goals. Improve            accessibility of AFL’s work across platforms.

· Support the engagement of AFL’s 100,000+ members on local, state, and national conservation issues, focusing

on coastal policies and stewardship, Everglades science and restoration, climate change and renewable energy, policy    initiatives, etc.

· Support AFL Centers by crafting communications that engages members around public programming,

fundraising events, summer camps, etc.

· Support AFL’s equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging (EDIB) efforts through the development of engagement              materials and outreach.

· Create, edit, and post graphics using Canva and/or the Adobe Creative Suite.

· Create, edit, and post social media content to our center pages (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram), and

develop creative methods for increasing engagement. Support center efforts to also post relevant state and national      content.

· Write and edit content for all websites, including Audubon Florida, Audubon Center for Birds of Prey, and Corkscrew        Swamp Sanctuary, as needed.

· Support membership, fundraising, advocacy, and other organizational goals through creative digital tactics.

· Research marketing and placement opportunities for Audubon, Center for Birds of Prey, and Corkscrew Swamp              Sanctuary materials. Liaise with outlets    as appropriate.

· Monitor and report on mentions of our work in the media.

· Work with policy and communications team to work with college students, training them to write Letters to the Editor    and Op-eds.

· Facilitate the timely coordination of communications among key collaborative partners and help track

progress toward key deliverables under the work plan, including tracking and coordinating budget expenditures

with senior communications staff.

Qualifications and Experience

· Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, marketing, or related field and 0-2 years’ experience

in a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.

· Experience in developing engaging print and online communications materials for a wide range of audiences.

· Exceptional writing and editing skills. Must write quickly and well under pressure and have the ability to communicate    complex and technical information clearly to many audiences.

· Demonstrated time-management skills, attention to detail and ability to juggle multiple projects and

consistently meet deadlines.

· Graphic design skills a plus.

· Tech-savviness and ability to learn how to use tools to manage online communications.

· Proficiency with social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Experience with Microsoft

Office Suite required.
