POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking a communications associate to support CPI’s growing Innovative Finance work, which incubates new ideas that mobilize private capital to address climate change. Programs under this workstream include the Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance and the Catalytic Climate Finance Facility.
You will be responsible for leveraging a broad range of communications tools and skills to ensure the Innovative Finance program is visible to entrepreneurs, investors, our program members, and other stakeholders who share our goal of accelerating finance for low-carbon and climate-resilient economies globally.
Candidates should have a strong, demonstrated interest in sustainable business, investment, finance, and economics, and dedication to expanding CPI’s impact during this critical time to significantly scale the amount of private finance flowing towards climate issues, especially in emerging markets and developing economies.
You will report to the Communications Manager based in Brazil, be a core member of the Innovative Finance program team, and collaborate with communications, analysts, leadership, and operations colleagues around the world. You will also work with external stakeholders, including program members, entrepreneurs, funders, partner programs, and media.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Includes the following and other duties as assigned:
Develop and carry out integrated external communications strategies that support overall program goals.
Create and edit materials such as presentations, pitch decks, videos, blog posts, social media content, newsletters, and other types of communication materials targeted at multiple global and local audiences, including entrepreneurs, private investors, policymakers, and finance innovators.
Support the program team in developing and producing research products, reports, events, and other high-quality CPI outputs.
Create visibility and engagement for the Innovative Finance programs, particularly targeting climate finance entrepreneurs to apply to CPI’s innovative finance programs, globally and regionally, including Brazil, Latin America and the Caribbean, India, Philippines, and South Africa
Strategize, manage, and execute program events throughout the year, including event design, building agendas and presentations, managing invites and outreach to stakeholders, event logistics, coordinating internal communications related to events to ensure coordination across offices and programs, creating and providing guidance on event budgets, and executing post-event strategies to ensure a strong ROI for events.
Support the program’s contact relationship management process; assist the program team in making the best use of the CRM platform; ensure good usage practices; routinely clean and improve available data.
Prepare social media packets; strategize and schedule social media for application windows, events, and publications; develop and execute plans to grow our broader social media presence and number of followers.
Create and update content for program websites; ensure content is shareable, search-friendly, and allows for a great user experience.
Develop media pitches and carry out outreach efforts; place stories in top-tier global and relevant geography and industry media channels; support the production of press materials and help develop story angles that provide value to journalists; monitor and track press coverage; identify relevant journalists and build relationships with them.
Help measure and assess comms KPIs; rely on analytics to understand causality and drivers of indicators; use experimentation to improve communications processes and effectiveness.
Contribute to developing and maintaining a knowledge base of program reference materials and information for CPI staff, including file and wiki management.
Contribute to and support your colleagues on the CPI global communications team on other communications activities as needed, including knowledge management, internal communications, events, and digital communications.
The position may require occasional international travel.
COMPETENCIES & PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
Essential
Progressive multi-year experience or demonstrable equivalent skills in a role similar to this one, whether through communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, or a related field
Independent worker and strategic thinker who learns quickly and can successfully navigate unchartered territory
Advanced English fluency, especially with writing and editing skills (high proficiency with technical and business content), with the ability to restructure as well as copyedit
Outstanding organizational, project management, and prioritization skills, ability to manage multiple deliverables, and polished, diplomatic interface with internal and external stakeholders to overcome barriers, meet deadlines and achieve project goals
Ability to turn economics and finance technical information into accessible insights for investors, policymakers, and other stakeholders
Experience in event management and managing stakeholder relationships
Experience developing presentations and guiding colleagues in creating and delivering engaging presentations
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships in a cross-cultural, global working environment
Ability to work flexibly and with a solutions-oriented approach under pressure and on tight deadlines
Highly proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel are heavily used)
Experience creating engaging content in various formats – web, print publications, presentations, press releases, and social media.
Desirable
Experience with media outreach and public relations. Experience with financial media.
Experience with social media and online content management systems, including WordPress, Google Analytics, Google Ads, Mailchimp, Hootsuite, or equivalents.
Experience with Airtable or CRM systems.

CPI UK is a hybrid working environment, with our teams spending part of their working hours at home and part in the office, depending on the nature of the role. Typically, we request that teams spend at least 40% of their time in the office with their colleagues.
