Purpose of the Role:

As the CO2 Sorbent Chemist Co-op, you will engage in helping with the synthesis/functionalization of monomers which involve one or two step organic reactions. These monomers will go on to making porous polymers for humid CO2 capture. The successful completion will give some new CO2 sorbents with high performance and numerous insights towards future design.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • You are currently enrolled in a Chemistry or Material Science degree.
  • You have experience in a lab.
  • You have knowledge in sorption and sorbent characterization techniques using lab instruments (e.g., TGA, DSC, DVS, XRD, EDS, PSD, FTIR, Sorption units, breakthrough unit, mass spectrometer, etc.), & data analysis.

Bonus Skills and Qualifications:

  • You have knowledge of routine data plotting and analysis software.

What Success looks like in this role:

  • You will conduct lab work on sorbent, especially organic sorbents, development & synthesis for carbon capture application.
  • You will be involved in literature searching and reading on CO2 sorbent development.
  • You will conduct experimental setup and chemical purchase ordering, SDS and inventory updating.
  • You will present results in written and oral form by means of technical reports, words, excel and ppt.
  • You will conduct basic sorbent characterizations (FTIR, PSD, TGA, …) and analyze the data.
