Dillon’s Communities and Environment technical group is looking for a Civil Engineer-In-Training to join our multidisciplinary team of professionals. You will have the opportunity to work on new and exciting projects while providing clients with a fully integrated and superior customer experience.
At Dillon, we operate as one team. This position is available at our Dillon Yellowknife office.
Responsibilities
What your day will look like
Coordination and Design (89%)
- Assist project managers and engineers in the functional and detailed design of municipal infrastructure related to water supply, sewers, roads, land development site servicing, storm water management and waste management
- Assist project managers, engineers, environmental scientists and others on a variety of multidisciplinary design teams (including project engineers, planners, biologists, technologists, etc.)
- Complete design activities to maintain project schedules and ensure successful project completion
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members
Business Development (5%)
- Contribute to business development activities including client need research, preparation of project proposals and presentations
- Business travel to other Dillon offices
Learning and Development (6%)
- Commit to self-development and ongoing learning and professional development
- Contribute to Dillon’s corporate profile through active participation in professional associations and committees
Qualifications
What you will need to succeed
- A degree in civil engineering
- Registered as an engineer-in-training with the Professional Engineers of North West Territories and Nunavut, or be eligible within six months
- One to two years’ work experience in the consulting industry, although entry level staff will also be considered
Experience
Experience
- Knowledge of the functional and detailed design of integrated municipal infrastructure including roads, sewers and watermains
- Understanding of the range of project design and implementation activities including development of design drawings and reports, contract document preparation, tendering, and contract administration
- Proficient in the use of current AutoCAD software; working knowledge of Civil 3D/Land Desktop software will be considered an asset
- Knowledge of relevant municipal/provincial engineering standards and regulatory requirements
- Strong verbal and written communication, organization and interpersonal skills
- Familiarity with local regulations, policies, guidelines, and provincial and municipal permit requirements for environmental agencies
- Proven skills in detail design of municipal infrastructure
- Familiarity with both construction inspection and contract administration would be considered an asset
- Exceptional communication (verbal and written) skills are essential
