Wood Mining & Minerals business performs consulting and EPCM services for many of the world’s leading mining companies and is executing world-class projects on five continents.
Wood is seeking a Civil Engineer to join our Minerals & Metals business group. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this position is located at our Vancouver, BC office. This role has overall responsibility for delivering Civil Engineering services on our major projects. The Wood Vancouver office is currently offering a hybrid working environment (minimum 3 days in our Vancouver office), with your work week split between attending the Wood Office and working from home. This situation is subject to change and is dependent on project requirements, office plans, and Wood policy changes.
Key responsibilities
- Civil engineering design and technical support for the construction and modification of mining and industrial facilities and services, including calculations, design drawing review as well as field investigations
- Manage multiple tasks in a multi-disciplinary team environment
- Contributing to the preparation of technical specifications and engineering input to material, construction and commissioning packages
- Study execution including material quantity take-offs
- Providing engineering technical support to the field during construction, including responding to RFIs from construction contractors, issuing Site Instructions and performing field reviews
- Involvement in the development of proposals, study reports, engineering specifications, and contract documents
- Develop and maintain positive & sustainable client relationships
- Coordinate and work with project team members
- Mentor junior staff
Skills / Qualifications
- 5+ years experience in civil engineering design within mining, energy and/or industrial projects of varying stages from conceptual to detailed design
- Experience in site development, and pipe and open channel hydraulics
- Tailings / slurry piping design experience is an asset
- Sound knowledge of various piping materials, fittings and joining methods
- Experience in storm water management, stormwater runoff calculations, sizing the ditches, culverts and ponds
- Good understanding of various coordinate systems and survey controls
- Experience in interpreting and applying geotechnical design recommendations on civil designs
- Capable of developing creative yet practical solutions and is open-minded to alternative solutions
- Experience in writing technical reports, specifications and in preparing the material take-offs
- Experience in technical evaluations of construction contracts and material / equipment supply contracts
- Excellent organizational, technical, communication and computer skills
- Knowledge of general civil designs and an understanding of industry codes, standards and construction methods
- Willingness to travel to remote field locations on a short term basis
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high volume and deadline-driven environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
- Excellent interpersonal and decision making skills
- Positive attitude and ability to effectively work in a multi-discipline team atmosphere is imperative
- Authorization to lawfully work in Canada without sponsorship from Wood is required
