Chief Platform Officer

_**ABOUT THE ROLE

3Degrees helps organizations around the world implement renewable energy, transportation decarbonization, and other climate solutions. To support our rapid growth and remain at the forefront of the energy transition, offering products and solutions to corporate and utility customers worldwide; we are looking for an experienced product development executive with broad software-platform development experience and multiple successes to lead the next phase in 3Degrees’ technology evolution.

This role is designed for a strategic leader reporting to the CEO and chartered with establishing a broad product vision that builds upon current product initiatives and expanding market opportunities.  In this role, you will build and lead a new division for the company and will have responsibility for Development Engineering, Product Management and Product Marketing for products focused on transforming the digital experiences for our customers.  In this role you will lead the teams responsible for internal tools/systems to advance the technical capabilities of our business.   The role will also partner with internal groups (e.g.,Sales, Integrated Marketing and Business Units) and report regularly to the executive staff and board of directors regarding progress.

This role is preferably located in San Francisco, CA, Portland, OR or Portland, ME.  For highly qualified candidates this role may be located in a remote home office anywhere in the United States, with a willingness to travel for training and collaboration.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Own the product vision, development of  technology strategy, and success metrics for customer-facing technology products; review and approve development roadmap taking into consideration of stakeholder/market requirements, competitive environment and development trade-offs

  • Keep abreast of user requirements, competitive dynamics, and market opportunities, and prevent organizational silos

  • Vet and approve business models, messaging and GTM approaches, and establish business expectations regarding revenue, margins, subscriber growth, churn, etc.

  • Interface regularly with internal and external stakeholders such as vendors and customers to ensure alignment on strategy, design, development roadmap, and expectations; lead regular operations reviews with executive staff and cross-functional teams to highlight your strategy, development progress and market successes

  • Build a top-talent team to fill key roles in functional areas; establish clear deliverables – including stretch goals – and manage to those expectations; leverage 3rd-party resources where and when required to ensure execution commitments are met

  • Execution of strategic projects focused on internal tools/systems which may include rolling out new Sales or Finance tools (e.g., Salesforce CRM, NetSuite, etc.), or enhancing/developing specific capabilities that are either customer/partner facing or developments that support business operations.

  • Partner with the corporate development organization on potential partnerships; act as the executive lead for 3rd-party development and ecosystem technology partners

  • Potential to accompany CEO on press, industry analyst and on investor briefings

  • Advocate and reinforce 3Degrees’ culture and values, and work constantly to rally and align other organizations in the company around your vision

ABOUT YOU

  • Multiple software-product successes establishing product vision, strategy, and execution metrics, and delivering products and business success that align to those expectations; general management/P&L ownership experience
  • Startup mentality; with a bias for action and commitment to achieving results; ability to make decisions with varying degrees of uncertainty, and quickly course-correct when needed
  • Strong ability to make objective, data-driven decisions, especially regarding key trade-offs between time-to-market, technical capabilities (scale, performance), business models and respective metrics (growth, churn, etc.), and/or market opportunities
  • Proven ability to build and manage high-performance cross-functional (internal and external) teams, and successfully influence outside organizations to act as extensions of your team; experience partnering with other organizations in the company
  • Strong communicator (both verbally and in writing) with executive presence and the ability to clearly articulate business strategies to cross-functional, executive and external audiences, including customers and partners directly; your prowess as a “storyteller” with a data-centric approach is key to winning over your audiences
  • Familiarity with agile development processes and technical experience with standard software coding and development frameworks, middleware, data visualization, and content management/digital-experience systems; experience with blockchain a strong plus
  • A comfort level with wearing multiple hats – from reviewing development tradeoffs and respective business models and GTM strategies
  • Experience in leading teams responsible for analysis, implementation and evaluation of IT systems and their specifications with a sound understanding of computer systems (hardware/software), networks etc.
  • Experience as an executive sponsor or technical lead for technology partnerships

HOW WE DEFINE SUCCESS

Within 30 days

  • You will focus on becoming familiar with 3Degrees’ product portfolio (including current product initiatives), the business requirements for technical initiatives, and leverage that to start forming a broader vision and development strategy, working with existing organizations, reviewing team gaps, assessing current hiring priorities and potential candidates

Within 60 days

  • You will have prioritized and started interviewing for key hires (e.g., product management lead, engineering lead), and have made recommendations for resource efficiencies between other organizations.  You will have begun to assess a development approach to satisfy various initiatives and understand the phased set of requirements across various initiatives to include MVP timing and follow-on feature releases, and their associated business models

Within 90 days

  • You will have formed an overall vision and development strategy and presented it to the executive team and board of directors, complete with execution milestones, business impact expectations and trade-off considerations.  You may also accompany the CEO on press, analyst and investor meetings to help communicate that vision, as well as internally across the company to drive overall alignment

Within one year

  • You have successfully launched MVP’s and are established as the go-to internal resource for questions or updates regarding the company’s technology vision and strategy and be able to speak to your organization’s positive impact – internally and externally – on the company’s growth and mission, and those of its customers’ and partners’
