SOS Children`s Villages is hiring a
SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia (SOSCVE) started its humanitarian work with the opening of the first Village in Mekelle in 1974. It began its work by providing life-saving provisions such as food, water and health services for a very significant number of children devastated by severe drought and the subsequent famine.
Today, its programs have grown significantly to meet the persistent challenges that confront Ethiopian children and young people who have lost parental care and are at the risk of losing, the love, care and protection of their families and/or caregivers. Working in close cooperation with donors, the government and community-based organizations (CBOs), SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia has continued supporting thousands of children and young people who have lost parental care and are at risk of losing it. The organization is rigorously working to expand its geographic scope as well as program interventions areas to reach more children that are vulnerable and young people throughout the country and bring about a greater impact on the lives of the children, young people, their families as well as the community at large.
Young people grown up in different forms of alternative care in Ethiopia face various challenges when they exit from the care systems. Unfortunately, the concerns of the young care leavers (YCL) are not addressed in the existing social protection related policies, guideline, and work mandates of the social service workforce at all levels. The 2004 National Youth Policy and the 2012 Social Protection Policy similarly do not deal with the vulnerabilities of young care leavers adequately.
In line with the recommendations from the Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC), with the project “Leave No Youth Behind” DANIDA and SOSCVE will be collaborating between 2022-2025 to contribute to the impact where young care leavers in Ethiopia demonstrate resilience and self-reliance to become independent and contributing members of society. The project envisions targeting a minimum of 14,000 young care leavers directly, while indirectly benefitting 2.8 million young care leavers, by encouraging resilience and self-reliance to empower young care leavers to become independent and contributing members of society.
