We are strengthening the Ocean Space research team, seeking a highly motivated Blue / Ocean Economy system modeller for our ocean foresight activities. The successful candidate has a holistic understanding of the ocean economy, with experience from sectors like seafood, offshore energy, and shipping. We are seeking a candidate that will have a key role in further developing and expanding our ocean space research, modelling, and outreach.
You will be part of the Ocean Space Programme in Group Research and Development (GRD), a multidisciplinary research team that works across several business areas and research programs in DNV to bring new insight and services to DNVs ocean related activities and customers. As part of our team you will have the opportunity to influence and take part in DNVs research and innovation efforts towards shaping a sustainable future for the ocean space.
Key tasks:
- Work as part of the Ocean Space research programme, to further develop our system dynamics simulation models for the Blue Economy.
- Research on existing and emerging ocean value chains with a focus on drivers of demand for goods and services, offshore technologies, marine/maritime economics, marine policy trends (marine spatial planning, co-existence, multi-use) and the need to safeguard our ocean environment.
- System dynamics modelling as well as related processing and visualization of large datasets.
- Developing and (co-)authoring scientific publications and white papers, providing insight and foresight.
- Engaging with industry partners and other stakeholders to understand industry needs, share knowledge and take part in innovation activities.
Position Qualifications
Position qualifications:
- A master’s degree or a Ph.D. in engineering, mathematics, and/or economics with relevance for the ocean space, preferably with 2-5 years relevant experience in areas such as:
- Aquaculture
- Fisheries
- Offshore energy
- Maritime
- Marine policy
- Experience in system analysis/modelling. Knowledge of STELLA or similar system dynamics software is a strong advantage.
- Strong computational and analytic competencies for data analysis and/or programming, e.g. knowledge of Python or R.
- Experience with strategic research and development projects, including project management.

- Technically strong in own discipline, eager to share knowledge as well as acquire new knowledge.
- Holistic thinker and able to apply own knowledge and skills in new areas.
