Third Generation Environmentalism is hiring an
ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR, RISK AND RESILIENCE, BERLIN, BRUSSELS, LONDON, OR WASHINGTON
E3G is looking for an experienced practitioner and thought leader to occupy a new position as head of its Climate Risk and Resilience Programme.
E3G is a recognised global leader in climate security, international governance, financial & economic reform. E3G is increasing its capacity to ensure climate change risks are fully integrated into national decision-making and geopolitical relations, and to enhance international cooperation so it helps protect everyone from the unavoidable impacts of climate change.
The position is ideally based in E3G’s offices in Berlin, Brussels, London or Washington but other locations may be considered for exceptional candidates.
Context and Focus
E3G is a think tank working globally to achieve a safe climate for all. E3G is consistently ranked among the world’s most influential environmental think tanks. E3G is rapidly growing across a range of subject areas and venues.
Staying within the Paris 1.5C temperature goal requires the complete transformation of the global economy in three decades to reach net zero carbon emissions and ensure resilience against the worsening impacts of climate change. Delivering this will require fundamental changes to how countries work at home and internationally.
Countries will only make the hard political choices needed to meet the Paris goals if the consequences of failing to lower the risks of future climate change are fully integrated into national politics, policy making and international relations.
Climate impacts are happening earlier and harder than expected. Poor and vulnerable countries and communities are already experiencing devastating impacts; even the richest countries are proving to be under-prepared to manage the risks they already face. Better governance and greater investment in domestic and global resilience is needed to protect everyone from worsening climate impacts and ensure that responding to climate crises does not distract from the rapid transition to a net zero economy.
E3G has a strong track record over 15 years of working on risk and resilience issues; from supporting the first UN Security Council debate on climate change to reforming national risk governance regimes, integrating climate risk into public and private financial systems and shaping the UNFCCC negotiations.
E3G is looking for new leadership to expand the scope and scale of its Climate Risk and Resilience team which is currently based in the EU and US. The team draws on, coordinates and amplifies expertise and research from across E3G programmes on clean economy, sustainable finance, fossil transition, climate risk and political economy.
E3G undertakes analysis, develops practical policy and institutional proposals. E3G convenes multiple track 1.5 and 2 convenings and is a regular advisor to governments and international institutions on political analysis, strategy and diplomatic priorities.
E3G builds and convenes large-scale coalitions & networks to align diverse actors to strengthen climate cooperation. E3G works to shape public views in key countries on national interests, the benefits of deeper international engagement and shape broad foreign policy priorities.
As climate change risks increase E3G is looking to recruit an experienced practitioner & thought leader to take a leadership role in E3G’s Senior Management Team in the strategic development, delivery and management of this crucial Programme area.
