Associate Director of Accreditations, Greenhouse Gas Protocol

Program Overview:

The Greenhouse Gas Protocol is a world leader in creating standards on greenhouse gas emissions accounting and reporting used by thousands of companies, organizations, and governments worldwide. Building on a 20-year partnership between World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), GHG Protocol works with governments, industry associations, NGOs, businesses and other organizations. Over 90% of Fortune 500 companies responding to the CDP use GHG Protocol. GHG Protocol also provides standards, tools and online training to help countries and cities track progress towards their climate goals.

Job Highlight:

You will create and manage new Greenhouse Gas Protocol accreditation services, including overseeing the planning and implementation of new accreditation services. Accreditation services are expected to pertain to third-party consultants and service providers, tool developers, programs, and training providers. Accreditation will be designed to support users of GHG Protocol standards and guidance across business, city, and country audiences by increasing the quality, consistency, and level of conformance to GHG Protocol standards of third-party services, tools, and programs.

You will be part of the GHG Protocol team at WRI and closely work with the GHG Protocol Secretariat team from WRI and WBCSD.  You will report to the Director, Greenhouse Gas Protocol.

This position is suitable for candidates who have a strong background in standards development, accreditation, greenhouse gas emissions accounting and reporting, voluntary and regulatory programs, and multi-stakeholder processes.

What you will do:

Leadership of new Greenhouse Gas Protocol accreditation services (80%)

• You will lead and manage Greenhouse Gas Protocol accreditation service, including developing business plan, strategy, revenue model, and staffing for the accreditation of third-party service providers to support users of GHG Protocol standards and guidance for business, city, and country audiences
• You will lead and manage Greenhouse Gas Protocol “Built on GHG Protocol” Mark service, including developing business plan, strategy, revenue model, and staffing for the “Built on GHG Protocol” mark service of third-party tools and guidance (including methodologies, data, software, or other tools) and programs that build on GHG Protocol standards and guidance
• You will lead and manage Greenhouse Gas Protocol training service, including developing business plan, strategy, revenue model, and staffing for the training service or accreditation of third-party training providers
• You will lead and manage Greenhouse Gas Protocol technical support service, including developing business plan, strategy, revenue model, and staffing for the technical support service or accreditation of third-party technical support providers
• You will support implementation of new Greenhouse Gas Protocol strategy for 2023 – 2030 related to services listed above
• You will lead and manage fundraising for accreditation services
• You will hire and manage new staff to implement strategies and services
• You will engage with business, government, civil society, academic and other stakeholders
• You will engage with service providers, tool providers, program administrators

Additional responsibilities (20%)

• You will contribute to development of new Greenhouse Gas Protocol standards and guidance (e.g. related to Corporate Standard, Scope 2 Guidance, Scope 3 Standard, Land Sector and Removals Guidance) if time allows
• You will support other Greenhouse Gas Protocol projects and activities as needs arise and as time allows, such as related to assurance/verification, calculation tools, or other GHG Protocol activities

What you will need:

• Experie****nce: You will have 10+ years of full-time work experience in standards development and greenhouse gas accounting or related fields
• Education: You will have a Master’s degree in environmental science, environmental policy, or related field
• You will have past experience and knowledge in GHG accounting, standards development, accreditation, and verification
• You have prior experience in project management
• You have experience in making presentations, communications and blog posting presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Languages: You have verbal and written proficiency in English.
• Requirements: Existing US work authorization is required at the time of application. WRI is unable to sponsor work authorization for this position.

Potential Salary: $96,000-$130,000 if based in the US. Salary is determined by experience and other compensable factors.
