About the role
We are currently seeking a highly motivated Associate Director to play a central role in CPI’s analysis, convening, and implementation work in global climate and development finance policy, specifically our efforts to shape development finance institutions’ delivery of more effective climate investment.
Reporting to CPI’s U.S. Director, this is a senior leadership role in CPI’s U.S. team with program oversight, internal management, and external engagement responsibilities. In addition to programmatic and business development responsibilities, the Associate Director will serve as a role model, inspiring and motivating the Washington, D.C. based team, helping to foster a positive and collaborative culture.
Roles and responsibilities
The role will support CPI’s U.S. Director in executing the following responsibilities and others as assigned:
Program Oversight
External engagement
Represent CPI at local and international climate finance events, meetings, and other convenings.
Support fundraising and business development, including engaging with current and potential funders, and developing proposals.
As tasked, respond to media requests and other requests for information.
With support from Global Operations and Communications team, organize external stakeholder events as requested.
Internal Management
o Act as a role model and motivator, building the capacity of our growing D.C. team and fostering a supportive and positive working culture.
o Serve as a senior go-to person in the D.C. office, providing guidance on programmatic and operational matters.
o Work with the operations team to design and lead team-building events, including contributing to U.S. team retreats and professional development initiatives to facilitate cross workstream learning.
· Effectively manage at least 2 direct reports.
· Oversee staffing and resource management, including forecasting, allocation, and performance management, to meet the needs of a high-performing team.
· Lead D.C. office budget preparation and monitoring, working closely with the U.S. Director and global teams to ensure alignment.
· Collaborate with the Global Operations and Finance teams to ensure the effective management of the D.C. office and its integration into the broader organization.
About you
Essential:
· You are committed to CPI’s mission and values;
· You have substantial experience in leading analysis and implementation of climate and development finance policy;
· A demonstrated ability to lead, inspire and motivate teams, ideally in a growing or evolving organization
· A track record of cultivating a positive and inclusive team culture that aligns with organizational values and enhances employee engagement.
· A confident and effective verbal and written communicator, including experience in developing, editing, and publishing written content that influences decision makers;
· Demonstrated experience in stakeholder management, including facilitating discussions and knowledge sharing among people with divergent viewpoints including senior-level leaders;
· Demonstrated business development or fundraising experience;
· Demonstrated experience managing budgets;
· You are comfortable with uncertainty and agile in your approach;
· You are willing to ask for help;
· You enjoy working with others;
· Written and spoken fluency in English is required.
Beneficial:
· Experience in government policymaking or development finance institutions
· Understanding, gained through direct experience and/or partnerships, of private sector finance, including institutional types, finance instruments, regulatory frameworks, and investment barriers
Position Details
CPI is recruiting for one full time position to be based in our Washington D.C. office. CPI has adopted hybrid working whereby staff are able to work a mix of remote and in the office. This position will be expected to have regular office attendance in Washington D.C.
The salary range for this position is $165,000 - $180,000 per annum.
CPI salary offers are determined by the level of skill and experience demonstrated by the selected candidate as well as alignment to internal equity and external market levels.
CPI also offers a highly competitive benefits package which includes a generous 401(k) contribution and PTO provision.
