Assistant Staff Compliance Specialist

We have an opening for an Assistant Staff Compliance Specialist. The candidate chosen to fill this position will assist in compliance efforts for preconstruction planning, construction, and postconstruction operations and maintenance in the mining, transmission, power generation, and oil and gas markets. The position will be responsible for assisting a team of environmental professionals in helping our clients maintain environmental compliance with Federal, State, County and Local permit conditions and reporting requirements on both small and large scale construction projects.  The person in this position will work closely with contractors, clients, resource monitors, environmental inspection staff and agency representatives to ensure compliance with permit requirements and mitigation plans. We seek a self-motivated individual who can work independently and collaborate with local leadership to further develop the program.

What you will accomplish

  • Assist in managing environmental compliance teams and project teams working on a range of small to large infrastructure projects.
  • Provide professional regulatory and permitting guidance expertise to external clients and internal team members.
  • Gather and track data required for regulatory compliance.
  • Assist in serving as the regulatory/permit compliance liaison between agencies and clients.
  • Communicate effectively and proactively with diverse project stakeholders, including regulatory agents, field crews, trade workers, and third parties regarding project status, schedules, and compliance issues.

Experience and qualifications for success

  • Solution-driven attitude, detail oriented, and highly motivated.
  • Willing to work necessary hours to complete required deliverables and meet deadlines.
  • Compliance inspection experience in the Southern Great Plains and Southwest regions of the United States.
  • Experience with National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance during construction and experience in implementing and tracking mitigation measures.
  • Experience in developing and managing National Pollutant Discharge Eliminations System and state equivalent permits, stormwater pollution prevention plans (SWPPPs), and spill prevention, control, and countermeasure (SPCC) plans.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to communicate in writing, verbally, and graphically.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local permitting laws and processes.
  • Experience participating in audits according to local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Experience in compliance inspection on Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) projects is preferred.
  • B.S. in engineering, environmental science, or related field and/or a minimum of 8 years of related experience.
  • Experience in mining, transmission, oil and gas, and power generation.

An employee in this Houston, TX-based position can expect an hourly rate between: $24.15-30.98/hour. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law.  Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
