Climate Fund Managers (CFM) is a leading climate-centric blended finance fund manager. It raises and deploys climate finance funds in partnership at scale and at pace. CFM currently manages two emerging market infrastructure funds focused on climate change mitigation and adaptation: Climate Investor One, a c. USD 1 billion fund focused on renewable energy, and Climate Investor Two, a c. USD 1 billion fund focused on water, sanitation and oceans infrastructure. CFM is currently implementing further blended finance initiatives in the green hydrogen, power transmission and cities sectors focused on development, equity, debt and guarantee financial instruments.
Established in 2015, CFM is a joint venture between the Dutch Development Bank, FMO, and Sanlam InfraWorks, part of the Sanlam Group of South Africa with offices in The Hague, Cape Town, Singapore and Bogota.
Job Purpose
The Singapore Investments Team is seeking an enthusiastic Portfolio Management Associate based in Singapore and report to the Head, Portfolio Management, Asia. The core focus of this role will be on Asia within Renewable Energy, Water Infrastructure and Green Hydrogen. Travel will at times be required to countries within the CFM portfolio.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Asset and Financial Management Support:
- Engage and support the Principal Manager involved during the ownership, and divestment of assets.
- Coordination of board meetings
Decision-Making Support:
- Prepare and review memos and presentations for decision-makers, providing insights into Fund liquidity and recommending appropriate actions.
Financial Reporting and systematic enablement:
- Report on the financial performance of assets for CFM and investors
- Provide analysis and data point to support the Principal Manager with optimal hedging strategy, including FX, interest rate and inflation exposures.
- Analysis of current and future hedging needs
- Ensure best practice is implemented in terms of accounting, financial management and financial reporting including the company secretarial mandate for all assets
- Act as single point of contact between Investor Relations and Portfolio Management to ensure timely and accurate information flow.
Asset Cashflow:
- Provide analytical and financial modelling support for the management of asset cashflow requirements including construction drawdowns, debt service, supplier invoices and shareholder distributions
Stakeholder Relationship Engagement:
- Develop strong working relationships with the Principal Manager and other stakeholders within CFM as well as the investment companies.
Structuring and Valuation Support:
- Portfolio valuation support to the Principal Manager
- Collaborate with external valuers to address queries and provide necessary information.
Database Knowledge Management:
- Act as the knowledge manager for the database, overseeing data related to FX rates, interest rates, and other relevant financial information.
- Liaise with investment companies to ensure timely reporting of financial and technical information to CFM.
Portfolio Team Support:
- Collaborate with portfolio teams, offering support and insights across the deal process.
- Ensure seamless communication and coordination between various teams involved in the asset management process.
Governance:
- Implement due diligence work-streams e.g., manage advisers, review due diligence reports, and incorporate due diligence findings into investment analysis.
- Industry analysis and sector research.
- Knowledge owner for the transaction database, including relevant due diligence and project content.
- Process support for compliance, governance, and internal approvals, including but not limited to KYC, anti-money laundering checks and project reporting.
- Assist in cross-border transaction structuring, including taxation matters.
- Support transaction and portfolio teams across the asset life cycle
Qualifications & Experience
- Financial degree or equivalent
- Prior Fund Administration and Financial Management experience, advantageous
- 3-5 years’ experience within Private Equity (financial management, governance, fund administration) with previous experience in the Renewable Energy (preferred), Water sector or Green Hydrogen
- Proven ability to work across technical/financial and legal aspects of a transaction and work with various specialists internally to provide transaction analysis and recommendations
- Strong financial modelling skills and attention to detail
- Financial acumen – the capacity to demonstrate knowledge of and insight into financial principles and processes and identify inconsistencies in data
