Responsibilities

Program Overview
The U.S. Climate team is working to address the climate crisis with durable, effective policy at the state level. The team is working to advance state policies and programs that enable us to achieve a net zero economy by midcentury, including through rigorous technical and policy analysis, public education and outreach, and advocacy.

Location

Washington DC or remote US home East Coast preferred.

Overall Function

The Analyst, U.S. Climate will assist with implementing and developing strategy for a suite of multidisciplinary projects involving research and analysis on a variety of topics related to climate, energy, Environmental Justice, clean air, and public health issues. Research and technical analysis may be used to support our state campaigns for climate policies and for public education, advocacy with decision-makers, and political outreach, with particular focus in Pennsylvania and Virginia. In addition, the Analyst will work with other members of the Climate team to identify, implement, and develop other innovative strategies and approaches.

Areas of likely focus include, but are not limited to:

  • Policy and technical analysis of power sector, transportation, and industrial issues and regulations;
  • Policy and technical analytics support for near-term and long-term climate policy planning;
  • Analysis and review of policies and programs relevant to power sector efforts;
  • Analysis and synthesis of various emissions data.

This position will provide support with engaging outside partners, experts, decision makers, and stakeholders, both to ensure that our analysis is robust and well-informed and to enable broad dissemination of our findings for use in achieving our climate and air policy goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with and develop timely in-house analyses for Program staff and other programs throughout the organization.
  • Help write white papers summarizing research for a broader audience, along with public communications including technical regulatory comments, legislative testimony, presentations, Op-Ed pieces, fact sheets, and blog posts.
  • Prepare information to respond to inquiries from a variety of stakeholders.
  • Work with internet communications staff to maintain up-to-date information on websites.
  • Apply excellent organizational, communication, and planning skills in preparing correspondence and reports, responding to requests for information, and helping to coordinate activities among team members.
  • Assist in implementing initiatives such as supporting state policies reducing carbon emissions from power plants, industrial, and other sources.
  • Support Environmental Justice initiatives, particularly those related to addressing the disparate impacts of climate change and air pollution.
  • Participates in advancing EDF DEI goals in which people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included, and empowered to address the environmental and organizational challenges in alignment with EDF values.
  • Additional relevant responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications
The minimum qualifications for the position are:

  • Undergraduate degree in environmental science, economics, law or related fields with at least three years of related professional experience required; or a Master’s Degree in a related field with one year professional experience may substitute.
  • Results-oriented, self-starter with the ability to think strategically and carry out responsibilities in a timely and effective manner.
  • Exceptional personal organization and attention to detail.
  • Excellent research and analytical skills and an interest in performing rigorous analysis in support of highly visible work.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and to support a multi-disciplinary team, using independent judgment required to plan, prioritize, and organize diversified workload.
  • Demonstrates self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • Strong computer proficiency, including experience with Excel, Word, and Internet research.

Minimum Salary

USD $56,000.00/Yr.

Maximum Salary

USD $63,000.00/Yr.
