Position Summary

CPI offers a challenging environment that requires independent thinking, collaboration, and pragmatic problem solving. The role of Analyst supports the deliverables of CPI’s Climate Finance work stream, focusing on tracking climate finance trends, understanding effective approaches to meet the trillions in annual investment needed, and the design of innovative climate finance instruments that effectively align public and private interests. The Analyst undertakes robust and careful analysis, drawing on a blend of analytical skills from multiple disciplines, including economics, public policy, finance, and international development, to support initiatives and publications that promote significant reforms and groundbreaking financial tools. Streams of work include climate adaptation, international financial architecture reform, and US climate-related work, including climate finance tracking.

In conducting analyses, the Analyst will work in close cooperation with a range of domestic and international partners from the policy, finance, and corporate spheres, as well as with CPI teams throughout the world.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Includes the following and others as assigned:

  • Under the direction of Project Managers and/or Senior Analysts, contribute to the design, management, and implementation of complex research assignments and analytical projects
  • Efficiently collect and analyze varied and cross-disciplinary data to incorporate into useable and reportable formats. This will include but is not limited to investment data and transaction and impact attributes.
  • Perform rigorous quantitative analysis of national and international climate finance mechanisms and climate and energy policies
  • Assist in the writing and editing of high-quality CPI products, including full reports, executive summaries, blogs, and presentations
  • Communicate and collaborate with CPI staff working around the globe
  • Produce high-quality materials on demanding deadlines

Qualifications

  • A commitment to CPI’s mission and values
  • BA or BS degree required with coursework in finance, economics, and/or policy.
  • Previous professional/academic experience in  analyzing climate finance, economics, or policy
  • Passion for advancing climate action
  • Strong English written and verbal communications skills
  • Proficiency with the MS office suite
  • US work authorization for at least three years from start date.

Valued experience and skills

  • Experience (work or academic) in financial modelling
  • Knowledge of SQL, R, Python and Excel for data analysis and visualization
  • Independent, analytical, curious mind
  • Flexibility, professionalism, enthusiasm for working as part of a team, and an ability to interact with a diverse array of people
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, time management, and prioritization skills, and an ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Additional language fluency
  • Experience in developing economies

Position details

CPI is recruiting for full-time positions in our San Francisco or Washington DC office. CPI has adopted a flexible working policy whereby staff are able to mix working remotely with days in the office (particularly helpful for interacting with the wider CPI team, specific team meetings and collaboration).
