Role Purpose

We’re looking for people to blend their Agile experience with strong project management skills to drive a portfolio of digitally enabled environmental projects. We need your support in organising and managing work packages for our clients, improving our culture with scientific and technical domain experts across the business. You'll have the opportunity to influence agile processes and coordinate with the wider business and our customers about our digital delivery practices.

You’ll be responsible for managing concurrent high visibility projects using agile methods in a fast-paced environment.  This will include planning, leading, organising, and motivating Agile (scrum) project teams to achieve a high level of performance and quality, delivering software that provides exceptional business value to users.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project planning and management

Leading and managing large, complex enterprise-level digital projects including define project scope and schedule while focusing on regular and timely delivery of value; organise and lead project status and working meetings; prepare and distribute progress reports; manage risks and issues; correct deviations from plans; and perform delivery planning for assigned projects.

  • Team management and development

You’ll be used to having team leader responsibility, supporting and empowering the team to succeed, removing roadblocks to their work; leveraging organisational resources to improve capacity for project work; and mentoring, coaching and developing team members.

  • Support our business and clients

You’ll have focus owning digital projects in one specific environmental practice within Ricardo, managing customer expectations for project deliverables, managing stakeholder communications, and running an effective system of project governance with accountability for the digital delivery of a wider environmental programme.

  • Process management and improvement

Manage continuous improvement of our project management process and champion ongoing process improvement initiatives to implement best practices for Agile Project Management.

  • Champion for Agile

Guiding and coaching teams (both technical and non-technical) on Agile project management, helping them to master tools, workflows, and processes.  Identifying and implement improvements to processes and communicating with company stakeholders to enable successful collaborative Agile teams across the business.

Key Competencies and Experience

  • At least 3 years’ experience acting as Agile Project Manager, with qualification (e.g., Scrum, SAFe, Agile PM, PMI-ACP, CSM, or equivalent preferred)
  • Experience working with distributed agile teams.
  • Planning, monitoring and reporting experience working with tools such as ADO, Jira, Miro and Confluence, Microsoft Project, Visio, and all Office Tools
  • Solid understanding of software development life cycle models as well as expert knowledge of both Agile and traditional project management principles and practices and the ability to blend them together in the right proportions.

  • A listener with strong critical thinking capabilities to understand and solve problems effectively.
  • Foster a collaborative environment with the ability to quickly establish collaborative partnerships with key stakeholders and team members. Passion to continually improve yourself and the team.
  • A proven track record of successfully implementing software or web development projects using Agile methodologies including project managing large, complex projects in a high-tech development environment with multi-function teams.
  • A ‘Can-Do’ responsible attitude - taking ownership of tasks and challenges to provide effective solutions.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills and experience interacting with both business and IT individuals at all levels. Ability to explain complex issue to non-technical stakeholders
  • Consistently and competently managing expectations
  • Creative approach to problem-solving with the ability to focus on details while maintaining the “big picture” view. Desire and confidence to express your own ideas.
  • Commercially astute. It is desirable if you have experience of managing 3rd Party Suppliers to deliver in time pressured and complex technical or intense stakeholder environments.
