Location: Oak Park with travel to Chicago neighborhoods of Austin & East Garfield Park
Schedule: 20 hours/week | Part-Time (Must be available for a full workday on Mondays)
Starting Salary: $23-$24/hour DOQ
About the Role
The Adult Education Coach provides one-on-one and group instruction, tutoring, and coaching for adult learners across our housing, family support, and workforce development programs. You’ll create engaging, inclusive learning experiences, track progress, and work closely with other New Moms staff to connect participants with additional resources. This role is perfect for an educator who is passionate about adult learning and adaptable across settings.
What a Day Might Look Like
- Reviewing studying strategies for the GED
- Writing strategies, study habits & test taking tips
- Administering an assessment and entering results into the database
- Using an online platform to create interactive practice quizzes for students
- Connecting with a program coach to align on a participant’s education and career goals
- Following up with learners via phone or email to encourage persistence and answer questions
- Collaborating with colleagues to integrate adult education into broader program activities
Key Responsibilities
- Teach and tutor participants for High School Equivalency exams (GED/HiSET) and other certification prep
- Design and implement engaging learning activities for diverse learning styles
- Administer and track pre- and post-assessments
- Use online learning platforms, digital tools, and supportive technologies to enhance learning
- Maintain strong relationships with learners to encourage persistence and success
- Collaborate with program coaches and staff across departments to integrate education supports
- Connect participants with community resources and advocate on their behalf when needed
- Keep accurate, timely records in internal and external databases
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and agency events

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree OR. diploma/equivalent + 5 years related experience (degree in Education, English, Language Arts, or related field preferred)
- 2+ years teaching or tutoring experience preferred
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
- Proficiency with digital tools, online learning platforms, Microsoft Suite, and Canva
Other Requirements:
- Must be available for a full workday on Mondays
- Ability to work occasional evenings based on program needs
- Access to reliable transportation (car or public transit); valid driver’s license and insurance required if driving
Work Environment: Must be able to sit/stand for up to 8 hours, walk stairs, and lift up to 30–40
lbs (or perform with reasonable accommodation). Work environments may vary.
