Instill’s mission is to transform teaching, learning, and leadership in every classroom on the African continent. We believe that the greatest levers for change in the education system are teachers and school leaders. In January 2023, Instill Education was accredited as a higher education institution in South Africa, and is seeking to build a team that will change the face of teacher education across the continent. We’re looking for Adjunct Lecturers for Afrikaans, English, and isiZulu Home Language to join our growing team to ensure the success of our first cohorts of student-teachers.

What does the role entail?

As an Adjunct Lecturer, you will be working under Instill’s Academic Dean in Johannesburg to deliver content on the PGCE in Foundation Phase teacher training programme. The role of the Adjunct is anchored in sound theoretical and practical knowledge of preparing teacher trainees to lead their own classrooms. Adjuncts are contracted for a fixed amount of hours per week for the duration of the block.

Specifically, you will be responsible for;

  • Preparing for and facilitating lectures for contact and distance cohorts
  • Creating opportunities for students to undergo classroom practice and provide support as needed
  • Grading assessments, synthesising performance data, tracking cohort progress, and identifying gaps in student understanding
  • Conducting student consultations and attending to student queries as and when needed
  • Creating and maintaining a positive work environment and sense of community for all students

Selection Criteria:

  • An honours degree in education (Master’s degree would be an added advantage)
  • At least 3 years experience teaching the specific language at home language level in primary school
  • You have experience coaching or supporting teachers
  • Experience in a junior teaching faculty role is advantageous
  • You have the ability to facilitate teacher-trainee sessions and coach teacher trainees
  • You are highly adaptable, with strong critical thinking, planning and execution skills
  • You are an outstanding written and oral communicator
  • Commitment to excellence in the provision of service to students
