What you will be doing?
The Bridges is Forward’s residential substance misuse treatment centre in Hull specifically designed for male ex-offenders. The strategic mission of the treatment centre is to help residents achieve long-term recovery from drug & alcohol dependency, and full reintegration into the community through an intensive, primary structured 12 week 12 Step residential programme.
The role will be responsible for structuring, planning, coordinating and implementing successful activities, ensuring a fun and constructive leisure time for our residents. There will be travelling expected to and from event locations. You will motivated, a strong communicator and expected to work autonomously with the residents.
This role is working on weekends only. Duries include:
- Ensure that the social and further learning programme for each resident is set up to meet individual needs ensuring that residents have a variety of activities planned and adequately resourced.
- Identify resident activity needs to ensure full knowledge of the resident’s likes, dislikes, interests, abilities and difficulties.
- Organise outings as appropriate on the weekends.
- Explore the most appropriate methods and resources for meeting activity needs, including group events, individual sessions, involving internal and external sources and involving community based resources.
- Plan a varied programme of activity based around the needs of the resident group using the identified sources in conjunction with Management, the activities staff and other colleagues.
- Advertise the planned programme in an appropriate manner which encourages involvement of all activities for all residents
- Provide activities based on the planned programme in a flexible manner, allowing for necessary changes.
- Maintain a portfolio of information, including the range of activities available within the local community.
- Regularly review resident needs, the programme of activities and levels of participation, in conjunction with Management.
- Organise theme events as required, based on local holidays, traditions, etc.
- Some events may be outside your normal working day and it is expected that you would attend these as and when appropriate.
- Take on other reasonable tasks and responsibilities as deemed appropriate by Line Management
What we are looking for?
- The ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with all clients
- Experience of supporting vulnerable adults (this may come from volunteering, student work placements or previous employment)
- The sensitivity and energy required to provide a trusting, stimulating and varied lifestyle for the residents
- Experience of planning and organising activities appropriate to individuals’ needs and abilities
- Strong team player who is self-motivated, proactive and able to multi-task under pressure
- Experience working in the charity sector
- Experience or a good knowledge of the criminal justice system, different drug treatment options, Government drug strategy policy and local knowledge of community services would be beneficial for this role
