Overview

Position Summary
Reporting to the Financial Accounting & Reporting Manager, the Accounting Officer is responsible for posting entries to the general ledger, recording, and reporting of accounts payable and accounts receivable, recording and maintaining records of cash disbursements, maintaining vendor payee records, performing reconciliations of sub-ledger and general ledger accounts, and other financial activities. S/He conducts regular checks of internal controls, leads the preparation of the monthly accounts operation close and ensures disbursements are in accordance with the budget and rules of The Island School.
Roles & Responsibilities
- General accounting tasks, including reconciling and maintaining balance sheet accounts and general ledger operations, preparing journal entries, preparing monthly supporting schedules, preparing account/bank reconciliations, preparing vendor/customer reconciliations;
- Oversee the validation of transactions and verification of their overall impact on the general accounts;
- Review incoming and outgoing invoices following appropriate department procedures;
- Ensure all expenses have the proper approval and are assigned to proper general ledger accounts;
- Prepare monthly expense analysis report;
- Prepare payments, bank transfers, and posting of bank transactions;
- Ensure timely and accurate general ledger entries for monthly and year-end closure of accounts;
- Identify and resolve invoicing issues and any accounting discrepancies with customers/vendors;
- Assist in identifying grant activities and ensure the appropriate billing occurs;
- Ensure proper and complete documentation filing for easy retrieval of all accounting related documents;
- Update CRM database with customer account details;
- Assist in the annual audit process;
- Assist in the maintenance of the chart of accounts;
- Identify and report any issues with ERP tools;
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications & Skill Requirements
- Minimum qualification must possess an Associate’s Degree in Accounting or related field
- Knowledge and hands-on experience with QuickBooks, SAP or PeopleSoft
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel
- High level of attention to detail, good time management skills and good problem solving skills
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
- Must be willing to relocate
