Sonoma Ecology Center is hiring an

Accounting Assistant / Bookkeeper

🇺🇸 Eldridge, CA, US 📝 FULL-TIME

Classification:  Non-Exempt                                            Reports To: Accounting Manager

Flexible schedule, part-time with possibility of full-time

Non-hybrid position

Hourly rate: $25-$30 per hour

Job Summary: The Accounting Assistant / Bookkeeper will support the Accounting Manager .

Organization:

Sonoma Ecology Center is a 32-year-old nonprofit with a mission to work with and for our community to identify and lead actions that achieve and sustain ecological health in Sonoma Valley. We drive important land, water, biodiversity, research, and climate initiatives in the North Bay and beyond. We have 40 staff members, and manage multiple grants and contracts, often in partnership with other agencies, so that we may better leverage our important resources and knowledge base.

Duties/Responsibilities (Include But Not Limited To):

  • Provide support for the accounting cycle, payroll, A/P, A/R, general ledger
  • Maintain electronic files
  • Compile/prepare routine reports & summaries on a monthly basis and upon request
  • Research and resolve discrepancies, perform reconciliations, assist with month-end close
  • Maintain records to assist with issuing monthly, quarterly, year-end compliance reporting
  • Perform other accounting / administrative tasks as assigned by the Accounting Manager
  • Maintain confidentiality of all financial data

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong analytical skills, problem resolution, and solid understanding of GAAP
  • Sharp attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Focused individual with strong planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to work well as part of a team as well as operate independently

Education and Experience:

  • Experience with Intuit Quickbooks Desktop and Quickbooks Online - required
  • Extensive experience with MS Office Suite, including Excel - required
  • High degree of proficiency in applications such as Google Suite, Adobe, Square & other dashboards and databases
  • 1-3 years of accounting experience, preferably nonprofit accounting

Physical Requirements:

  • One will be required to sit at a desk for prolonged periods of time
  • Must be able to lift 15 lbs. at a time
  • One must be able to use standard office equipment such as a computer, scanner, copier, and phone

Offers of employment are contingent upon the successful completion of a background check, relevant to the position.

Benefits:

Employees working on average of 20 hours or more per week are eligible for benefits such as health insurance, vacation days, holidays, and sick accrual.  SEC pays 80% of the employee’s health insurance premium.  You may choose from two different Kaiser Permanente Health Plans.  At this time, SEC does not contribute to dependents or spouses but they can certainly be added to your plan.
