Overview
The Island School, a not-for-profit organization based in the Bahamas, was founded to create and support transformational educational experiences with the vision of leadership affecting change, on the island of Eleuthera. The diverse educational initiatives, including our High School Semester and Summer Term, Deep Creek Middle School, Elementary Learning Center, and our Community Engagement and Partnerships, deliver unique educational journeys in conjunction with the authentic and meaningful work our organization undertakes in research and sustainable development at the Cape Eleuthera Institute, our research and innovation hub. We are reimagining what education is for and redesigning how education is delivered.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Financial Controller, the Accountant would be responsible for recording and reporting of invoices to the accounts payable ledger and cash receipts to the accounts receivable ledger, recording and maintaining records of cash disbursements, maintaining vendor payee records, performing reconciliations of vendor and customer accounts, and other activities.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Invoice and process payments to customer accounts
- Enter vendor bills into the accounting system for payment
- Disburse, record, and reconcile petty cash transactions
- Prepare cash deposits for review by management
- Match invoices to purchase orders to ensure proper approval has been received
- Report any unauthorized activity on vendor customer accounts
- Update customer and vendor records when needed
- Respond to vendor and customer requests and inquiries
- Verify new and old banking details for vendors
- Identify and report any issues with accounting software
- File documents when necessary
- Assist in the School Store when needed
- Perform other duties assigned by finance management
Qualifications & Skill Requirements
- Associate’s Degree in Accounting or currently pursuing an Associate’s Degree
- Basic Excel and Microsoft Word skills
- High level of accuracy and efficiency
- Exceptional communication skills

- Good time management and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
- Ability to live in a small, remote location
- Work and live in an intentional community
- Valid driver’s license
- Transportation a plus
