We're a team of economists, planners, designers, social strategists, engagement specialists and project managers. We approach our work and play with the curiosity, and the imagination, to solve problems and make the impossible, possible. We thrive on collaboration and work in multi-disciplinary teams that adopt a holistic approach to projects. By integrating our expertise in urban design, economics, social strategy, engagement, project management, and planning, we create solutions that deliver the best results for the communities and environment they serve.

About The Role

Our ideal candidate will hold or be pursuing tertiary qualifications in a relevant field such as human geography, social science and research, social planning, sustainability, policy and politics or international relations. If you are a creative, strategic thinker with a strong vision for social equity, sustainable cities and resilient communities, we welcome your application. We are building a strong team of social strategists, who bring diverse perspectives and skillsets and enjoy cross-disciplinary collaboration. So, if that sounds like you, and you’re passionate about social sustainability, we want to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

As a Junior Urbanist, Social Strategy & Engagement, you will:

  • Undertake research and analysis across areas such as population growth and change; social issues facing communities; impacts and opportunities of urban renewal; and optimal policy drivers for our changing cities.
  • Develop evidence to assess impacts and support client decision making on social issues relevant to their projects, through applying social planning, social policy development and social research methodologies – both qualitative and quantitative.
  • Support the delivery of innovative stakeholder and community engagement processes.
  • Assist in the development of advice and impact assessment for a range of clients, including the property industry, not for profits and government agencies, under the guidance of a Project Manager/ Director.
  • Work collaboratively across a wide range of projects and services across the organisation’s diversified portfolios, including as part of multidisciplinary project teams.

About You

  • Completed or working towards tertiary qualifications in relevant field such as Human Geography, Social Research, Social Sciences, Public Policy, Community Development and/or a Built Environment related degree/discipline.
  • Well-developed organisational and time management skills, with a flexible and positive attitude to working on a range of different projects concurrently.
  • Interest in urban policy, planning, development and infrastructure approval processes.
  • A strong team player with an interest in helping further develop our multi-disciplinary service offering.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and presentation skills.

Why Work with Us?

The business of creating a better urban experience is a complex one. It requires patience, diligence, intelligence and perhaps most importantly, a passion for making a difference to our experience of urban life.

What we do and the way that we do it is unique. We view each project as a complex puzzle that requires different perspectives and alternative angles to solve it. At Ethos Urban, no one individual ever has the answer. It’s only when we bring people with different specialisations from different teams that we can see the full picture and then the way forward. We call it collective intelligence.

We continue to hire great people with a diversity of skills, experience and backgrounds. This includes people with disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, women, people identifying as LGBTIQ+, culturally and linguistically diverse people, carers and other diversity groups. We encourage applicants from any background to apply to join Ethos Urban!

We back our people: We are proponents of flexible work, we provide generous leave provisions including purchased leave (up to 4 weeks annually in addition to your standard 4), 18 weeks paid parental leave regardless of your parental definition, paid study leave & access to transitional coaching. In addition, we cover your industry memberships, we provide an access to an array of great learning and personal development initiatives and incredible career pathways. For more please visit our website.

We have adopted the globally recognised United Nations Sustainable Development Goals as our ESG framework. The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) is a clearly defined pathway to improving our world, and how business can align its goals and actions to help us all collectively get there.
