Position: Programme Quality Research, Innovation, and Impact Advisor
Location: A preference for Johannesburg or Nairobi, or in an AAI country in the Africa region
Contract duration: 1 Year Secondment
Entry Salary: Grade E salary at GBP 59,000 as per International Secondment policy

The Role:
This role is responsible for contributing to successful Programme Quality and Learning through championing PQ&MEL and through the development of appropriate Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) frameworks and plans to support Policy, Advocacy, Campaigning, Research, and Public Engagement. The role supports the Programme Quality and MEL processes for the Impact Fund. A further purpose of the role is to support the Thematic, Campaigns, Communications and Regional Leads in the design of feminist research and learning products of ActionAid International (AAI) related to policy, advocacy, and campaigning work.
Who we're looking for:
This role specifically supports the Africa region. You should have a strong programme development and management component or substantial experience in leading, and doing programme/participatory research, evaluation, learning and knowledge management.
You must have specific and substantial experience of managing feminist research that contributes to a rights-based development programmes with poor and excluded communities in the global South, substantial experience of and commitment to decolonisation of knowledge, experience in providing research and MEL support to large donor funded projects, HRBA programming and monitoring experience, including working with partners and social movements.
You must have specific and substantial experience of designing and implementing rights-based development programmes with poor and excluded communities in the Global South.
You should be familiar with a range of approaches and methods currently being used in the sector to monitor and evaluate policy, advocacy, campaigning and public engagement efforts with the ability to document programme experiences while generating lessons learnt and knowledge. You should have a dynamic, participatory leadership style with superb negotiating and influencing skills.
You should have proven ability to persuade and inspire through communication, as well as negotiate and influence change, with sensitivity. You must be able to work closely with others (often from a distance) to meet tight deadlines and multiple priorities and have the ability to work in a multicultural context/environment, engage in social justice activism/advocacy and demonstrate innovative practices.
You should also have strong commitment to ActionAid’s values and ethos, including ActionAid’s feminist leadership principles.
